New Advent Paraments made by Sue with the quilt's story as told by the artist.

The Traditional liturgical colors for the season of Advent are purple and/or blue. The modern trend for this season today is to use blue or a mixture of purple and blue, to visually separate a season of joy and waiting from the traditional purple of Lent, a time of sorrow. For this reason, I've chosen blue for the altar quilt. The quilt block pattern I used on the Advent paraments is called Roman Stripe. Mary and Joseph's homeland was ruled by King Herod who was an ally and friend of the Roman Emperor Caesar Augustus. He decreed that all the world should be taxed. Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem, Joseph's birth city, where Jesus was born, where the angels sang and the shepherds stood in wonder. Each quarter of the Roman Stripe block is a triangle, universally symbolic of the Trinity. The four triangles together form the Christian symbol for the Eye of God.
